Description
This pair of dazzling fancy yellow diamond stud earrings made for pierced ears by Spectra Fine Jewelry in 2018 features beautiful 5-carat-each fancy yellow radiant-cut diamonds. The diamonds are accompanied by two reports no. 6193408095 dated June 1, 2018, and 5191520696 dated July 20, 2018, from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) stating that they are natural diamonds of fancy yellow color and even distribution with VS1 and VS2 clarity. Each diamond is set in 18K gold and has an estimated weight of 5.05 and 5.04 carats, respectively.
Fancy yellow diamonds are a rare subset of the most common kind of diamonds, known as the Cape Series, or type 1a, which comprise 95% of all natural diamonds. Canary diamonds, such as this weighty example, have traces of nitrogen in their crystal structure which cause the yellow color. Natural yellow color diamonds are extremely rare, with only one out of approximately 10,000 carats mined being a natural fancy color diamond. Yellows make up around 60% of all colored diamonds.
These significantly large diamonds, which measure approximately 10 x 9 x 6 mm a piece, are almost perfect squares and radiant cut, set elegantly and simply with four double talon prongs in 18K yellow gold. The diamonds seem to float as the gold prongs melt away. The radiant cut is a relatively new diamond shape that has steadily gained momentum since the late 1970s when master diamond cutter, Henry Grossbard, invented it. It features seventy facets with step-cut facets above the girdle and triangular facets below, combining the elegance of a square, with the sparkle of a brilliant cut. The radiant is ideal for colored diamonds like this one. Due to its faceting structure, this cut not only provides a depth which emphasizes the various color tones, but also creates an incredible brilliance and fire. As a result, these diamonds have a hypnotizing effervescent sparkle that is subtle yet dramatic.
