Passementerie, the encompassing French term for ribbons, trims, and tassels that adorn fanciful decor, is said to be the icing on the interiors cake, adding an eye-catching layer of texture and whimsy. Diamond passementerie is not just the embellishment or the icing; it is the ice. These fanciful Diamond Ruby Victoria Tassel Earrings, made in the Contemporary era, circa 21st century, dangle and sparkle coquettishly with your every movement. The sleek earrings are crafted in platinum set with pear shape rose-cut and round brilliant-cut diamonds with an estimated total of 15.56 carats and accented with luminescent ruby beads for vibrant color. The earrings are designed for pierced ears, outfitted with locking earring wires. The gross weight of platinum is an estimated 8.67 grams.
The tassels comprise individual strands of rose-cut diamonds with an estimated total weight of 14.94 carats. The pear shape diamonds are strung together most directly, leaving the back, front, and edges open to capture and reflect the lightest possible. Rather than setting the stones in a collet, the stones are connected by platinum rings inserted directly into tiny, drilled holes. Each strand—comprised of 12 diamonds and one ruby bead—is linked along the perimeter of a round pointed dome, fully embellished with pavé diamonds. The dome is suspended with much delightful movement from a ring, also fully embellished with pavé diamonds, which interlock with a pavé diamond hoop at the top of the design. The total weight of round brilliant-cut pavé diamonds is an estimated 0.62 carat.
Rose-cut diamonds were made popular in the Georgian Era in the 1700s, and have remerged recently as an ethereal, antique-inspired alternative to more traditional diamond cuts. Much like the sprawling petals of a fully bloomed rose, the peaked top is covered in distinctive triangle facets. Rose-cut diamonds are more typically round than the pear-shaped stones in this piece. Regardless of shape, they are most unusual, with a faceted dome in place of a flat table on the top and a flat base, much like a cabochon. Their most unique feature is their sparkle. This vintage diamond cut can have 3 to 24 facets on the crown, each bringing slight variation to the shape. Rather than an intense sparkle when the light hits it, the rose cut glows radiantly from within and emits a captivating yet subtle sparkle.
Rose-cut diamonds approx. 14.94 carats total, round brilliant diamonds approx. 0.62 carats total. Overall weight approx. 8.67 grams, made in platinum. Circa 21st Century.
