Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Diamond Pearl Cosmos Earrings

Lustrous, round, and perfectly smooth pearls captivate at the center of these Van Cleef & Arpels Vintage Diamond Pavé Flower Button Earrings, made in New York circa 1980s. The earrings depict a pair of five-petal flowers with ever-so-subtle mirror image symmetry. The variously sized petals and the diamonds' placement add to the blooms' vitality. Although stylized, Van Cleef & Arpels flowers are imbued with a delicate life force and a vulnerability that is unique to the Maison, brought forth by the superlative artisanship and attention to every graceful detail. Indeed flowers have been a signature of the Maison since its establishment at Place Vendôme in Paris in 1906.

The earrings are crafted in 18K yellow gold and feature a composition of five heart-shaped petals embellished with pavé-set round brilliant-cut diamonds with an estimated weight of 5.50 carats total of estimated E-F color and VS clarity. The petals surround two round white pearls. The beautiful luster of the pearls, along with the sparkle and fire of so many diamonds, is an elegant, feminine combination.

The flower petals are shaped like hearts, much like the famed Cosmos™ and Frivole™ collections, to suggest both a flower and a clover. These shapes pay homage to nature and luck, two of Maison’s cherished sources of inspiration. These earrings take their inspiration from the Cosmos™ collection, one of the Maison’s more recognizable signatures, dating back to the 1950s. Where the Cosmos™ flower has been simplified and stylized with four symmetrical heart-shaped petals, at times centering on a large round brilliant-cut diamond, these earrings have five petals that seem to lilt ever so slightly and subtly, somehow stylized yet naturalistic at the same time.

Clip-on style hinged omega back earrings, each measuring approx. 0.75 x 0.75” (19.05 x 19.05 mm). Diamond weight approx. 5.50 carats total, estimated E-F colors, VS clarity. Overall weight approx. 16.66 grams, crafted in 18k yellow gold. Made in NY. Signed Van Cleef & Arpels with serial number; circa 1980s.
