With these dramatic Spectra Fine Jewelry Yellow Diamond Halo Drop Earrings, there is nothing but bright scintillation in both day and evening light. Made in the 21st century, 2021, the 1.5-inch long (3.81 cm) earrings display a sleek geometric design that harkens back 100 years to the Roaring 20s. Still, the dazzling sparkle emanating from the various gemstone cuts is unmistakably contemporary. Pleasingly balanced and symmetrical, the pair of drop earrings are crafted in platinum and feature two cushion-cut fancy yellow diamonds at the bottom set in 18K yellow gold, each held with 4 talon prongs of the same material. The stones are surrounded with halos of pavé diamonds set in platinum, which trace an elongated teardrop in a single line and around three sides, forming the elegant structure of the drop. The yellow diamonds have an estimated weight of 6.50 and 6.14 carats each. They are accompanied by certificates from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) stating that they are natural diamonds of fancy yellow color with even distribution and VS2 clarity.
The studs at the top of the earrings comprise two emerald-cut white diamonds weighing approximately 0.50 carat each of approximately G-H color and VS clarity, not certified. The cut-cornered squares each are held with four talon prongs in platinum and surrounded with octagonal pavé diamond halos. The mesmerizing geometry of the emerald cut is the embodiment of the Art Deco era. Like the rectangular emerald cut, this square version, created in 1902, has cut corners, which creates an enchanting balance of scintillation and a radiating X shape that appears superimposed over the concentric squares created by X-shaped facets from its corners to its center culet. The clean lines highlight the excellent clarity of these gemstones. As the stones are cut with a focus on clarity, they give off some sparkle, but that intensity continues in the brilliant-cut pavé diamonds surrounding them.
The cushion cut, by contrast, has a softer silhouette with rounded corners. The yellow diamonds are identified as "cushion modified brilliants" on the GIA reports, which generally have a sparkle like crushed ice or glistening water, depending on the specifics of the facets. While the cushion dates back to the 1700s, with a revival in Art Deco jewels from the 1930s, the modified brilliant has a modern-day sparkle with just as many facets as the round brilliant cut. The artful facet patterns making up the cushion cut structural design allow more light to flow through the stone and return to the eye. The reflections within the cut combine to reveal the stone's natural color and are thus ideal for showcasing the beauty of fancy-colored diamonds such as these. The earrings are designed for pierced ears, outfitted with posts and French clips, and would be a devastatingly elegant culmination to a sleek gown.
Each earring measures approx. 1.5" in length (3.81 cm). 2 cushion-cut fancy yellow diamonds weighing approx. 6.50 and 6.14 carats, clarity is VS2; both certified by GIA. 2 Ascher-cut diamonds weighing approx. 0.50 carat each; estimated G-H colors, VS clarity. Overall weight approx. 15.02 grams, made in platinum. Circa 2021.
