Contemporary 12.37 ct Marquise Diamond Eternity Ring

What could be more romantic and more unique than an eternity band comprised of diamonds originally conceived as a coded love letter? The marquise cut came into being in the 18th century during the Baroque period (1600-1750) as an ode to kissable lips. King Louis XV (1710-1774) of France commissioned a jeweler to create a completely unique diamond shape that compared to the lips of his mistress, Madame de Pompadour, or Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour. This Contemporary Marquise Diamond Eternity Band Wedding Ring, made in the 21st century, circa 2010s, and crafted in 18K yellow gold, features 14 marquise-shape yellow diamonds weighing an approximate total of 12.37 carats.

The marquise cut diamond, also called a navette which is French for “little boat,” is an elliptical shape with pointed ends. It has evolved over the last 300 years or so to have 58 facets, equal to the round brilliant-cut diamond which displays the most brilliance, fire, and scintillation of all diamond cuts. Due to their long and narrow shape, marquise diamonds can create the illusion of greater size. It is said that choosing a marquise means that you are quite stylish and larger than life. The angular silhouette of this dynamic ring, activated with dramatic zig zigs on top and bottom, is visually splendid like a crown. Each diamond is presented vertically, individually, warmed in yellow gold and accented with corner prongs on top and bottom. The inside of the ring further shows the expert craftsmanship of the setting which features a beautiful yellow gold accordion-like structure with repeating pointed oval cutouts. This openwork structure behind the stones lets light in to add brilliance and amplify the sparkle.
