This Adamas Cornicello Diamond White Enamel Necklace features 7 cornicelli (singular, cornicello or corno portafortuna), or Italian horns, in various sizes and elegant treatments. The cornicello is an Italian amulet or talisman worn to protect against the evil eye, or malocchio, and bad luck in general. Historically it was used to promote fertility, love, and prosperity, and was most commonly made of red coral with a yellow gold accent. The twisted horn-shaped charm is said to be linked to Greek and Roman mythology related to the cornucopia which was a symbol of fertility and the earth after Zeus broke a horn from a goat. He filled it with fruit and flowers and gave it to his caretaker.

This 18” long (45.72 cm) 18K white gold chain-based charm necklace, made in Italy in the 21st century, 2020, suspends 6 graduated cornicelli in white enamel, topped simply with white gold loops, and culminates in one glittering pavé diamond-encrusted cornicello. Like most designs from this Italian fine jewelry house, founded in 1960 in Milan, the piece is sculptural yet delicate, minimalist yet luxurious. The white enamel looks supple like carved stone, which is a testament to their skilled artisanship. Although more steeped in Italian tradition than many of their pieces, the treatment of this amulet is modern and streamlined, and as such universally appealing and wearable.
