Description
This magnificent platinum and 18K gold cocktail ring made by Spectra Fine Jewelry in 2016 features a fancy yellow colored radiant-cut diamond of quite significant size, weighing approximately 22.86 carats. The diamond is accompanied by report no. 2155507854 dated April 9, 2014, from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) stating that it is a natural diamond of fancy vivid yellow color and even distribution with VVS2 clarity. The noteworthy central stone is accented simply with trapezoid diamonds on either side that weigh approximately 2.02 carats total.
Fancy yellow diamonds are a rare subset of the most common kind of diamonds, known as the Cape Series, or type 1a, which comprise 95% of all natural diamonds. Canary diamonds, such as this weighty example, have traces of nitrogen in their crystal structure which cause the yellow color. On GIA Colored Diamond Grading Reports, colored diamonds are graded in order of increasing color strength, from Faint, Very Light, Light, Fancy Light and Fancy to Fancy Intense, Fancy Vivid, Fancy Dark and Fancy Deep. Fancy Intense and Fancy Vivid, as this one is classified, command higher prices.
The sizable central stone, which measures 16 x 15 x 10 mm (approx.) is presented boldly and directly, allowing the cut and vivid canary color to truly dazzle. The diamond is a radiant-cut octagon, with proportions more like a near-perfect square with beveled corners punctuated by warm 18K gold prongs. The radiant cut is a relatively new diamond shape, designed by Henry Grossbard in the late 1970s, that has steadily gained popularity. It is similar to an emerald cut in overall shape, but its facets more resemble the round brilliant-cut. As such, the appearance of the radiant-cut diamond has a hypnotizing effervescent sparkle. The radiant is ideal for colored diamonds like this one. Due to its faceting structure, this cut not only provides a depth which emphasizes the various color tones, but also creates an incredible brilliance and fire.
