This Spectra Fine Jewelry Diamond Cross Pendant Necklace, made in the 21st century, portrays a modern and chic stylized version, somewhat inspired by a Maltese cross, typically with fanned out arms of equal length, or a more flared version of a Byzantine cross, with a longer descending arm and outwardly widening ends. But it also has an unmistakable silhouette of a snow angel, which is as sweet a form of protection as you could imagine.

Crafted in platinum, the pendant features 12 spectacular diamonds, mostly of custom shapes, with an estimated total weight of 9.19 carats. Four of the largest diamonds which comprise the cross are accompanied by reports from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) stating carat weight, color, and clarity, specifically: 1 shield-shape diamond of E color and SI1 clarity weighing an estimated 1.72 carats, 1 shield-shape diamond of E color and VS2 clarity weighing an estimate 1.67 carats, 1 triangle-shape diamond of F color and VS2 clarity weighing an estimated 2.11 carats, and 1 triangle-shape diamond of G color and SI1 clarity weighing an estimated 2.09 carats. Additionally, 4 princess-cut diamonds are channel-set partway around the loop of the pendant, and 4 trapezoidal custom-cut diamonds adorn the base of the cross, giving it dimension, like the hem of an angel’s gown. During the 1920s, many unusual diamond cuts were developed to suit the new geometric designs, including triangle cuts and shield cuts. The desire to distinguish one's coat of arms from others led to a period of substantial innovation in producing variants of the basic Christian cross by the early 14th century. The shield-cut diamonds in this pendant also invoke an air of chivalry, calling to mind an opulent coat of arms.
