Description
This Art Deco style cocktail ring is both minimalist and outstanding, using a limited palette of four materials in a perfect balance to make an impact. Simply emerald, diamond, platinum and yellow 18K gold comprise the materials of this ring; yet each has been used in contrast and in concert to create a beautiful whole. Created by Spectra Fine Jewelry in 2021, the ring features a sizeable 17.70 carat Zambian emerald, certified by C. Dunaigre, stating that the stone has minor clarity enhancement. The emerald is emerald-cut, which is perfectly self-reflective. The two flanking diamonds, shield-cut and geometric, stylistically support and strengthen the center stone, while sparkling in their own right. The diamonds are GIA certified, D color, VVS2-VS1 clarity, with an estimated total weight of 1.92 carats (0.93ct & 0.99ct).
Like the gemstones, the metals tell a similar stylized story: gleaming and stark, contrasting yet supporting. Platinum is used for the band and to echo the coolness of the diamonds, also supporting each stone with 5 talon-style prongs. In contrast, 18K yellow gold is crafted in a basket setting with 4 double talon-style prongs to support the emerald. It is a small detail that has a spectacular effect within a limited artistic palette.
Art Deco describes the predominant style in decorative arts and architecture between the first and second World Wars. It is an abbreviation for the “Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes,” an exhibition of the movement’s defining works held in Paris in 1925. Art Deco jewelry typically features colored stones as the focal point with diamonds to accent. Emerald is one of the more popular, prized for its vibrancy and rich mystery reminiscent of China and Japan, which were then exoticized. This ring, with its mathematical elegance and larger-than-life character, is an astute contemporary interpretation of numerous aspects the famed design period.
