Description
It is indeed calming, almost mesmerizing, to gaze deep into the beauty of this natural Burmese sapphire. The concentric facets of this octagonal blue gem become an abstracted mandala of sorts, where you can meditate on the center and allow its geometry to bring your mind to a state of balance. This quietly beautiful ring made by Spectra Fine Jewelry in the Contemporary Era, circa 2010s, is infinitely suitable as a cocktail ring, engagement ring, or celebration ring. It is crafted in 18K white gold and features a step-cut sapphire weighing an estimated 10 carats, set with 4 double claw prongs, and accented with 4 marquise-cut diamonds weighing an estimated 2 carats. The sapphire is accompanied by report no. 55417, dated 28 January 2010 from the Swiss Gemmological Institute (SSEF) stating that it is of Burmese origin with no indications of thermal treatment.
Such a magnificent natural blue sapphire as this one is rare, as the majority of colored gemstones on the market have been heat-treated to improve the color saturation. Burmese sapphires are some of the finest quality sapphires in the world, renowned for their sublime beauty, magnificent hues, and exceptional clarity. The sapphire is one variety of the corundum mineral species, which also includes ruby. In its purest form, the mineral corundum is colorless. Iron and titanium are the trace element that causes sapphire’s blue. The more iron the stronger the blue, and the more intense and uniform the blue is, the more valuable the stone.
Since the 14th century, sapphires have been featured in engagement rings because they symbolized romantic love, truth, and commitment. The British Royal Family has a particular penchant for sapphires and sapphire engagement rings, most notably, the Marguerite ring, formerly worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, and presently by Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales. Whether it be for true love or true grandeur—engagement, celebration, or cocktail—this Burmese sapphire and diamond ring will bring you in touch with your inner splendor as long as it adorns your finger.
