Contemporary Diamond Emerald Heart Necklace Earrings Demi Parure Suite

Rare and beautiful, the emerald’s stunning green color has also brought it an honored status amongst cultures worldwide. Throughout history, people have believed emeralds could confer riches, power, and eloquence if worn as talismans. This Contemporary Diamond Emerald Heart Necklace Earrings Demi Parure Suite, made in the 21st century, has a Byzantine or Medieval flair, with the principal motif replicated across two distinct yet stylistically related pieces—a collar necklace and a pair of button earrings—calling to mind an abundant coat of arms. The suite is magnificently crafted in platinum and 18K yellow gold and set with 13 heart-shaped green emeralds with an estimated total weight of 31.50 carats and 881 diamonds with an estimated total weight of 43.00 carats. The emeralds are accompanied by a report from C. Dunaigre stating that they are natural beryl-type emeralds of Zambian origin with insignificant to minor clarity enhancement.

Zambian emeralds, known for their extremely high quality and unique appearance, have become increasingly popular in recent years. Typically, Zambian emeralds tend to have a much higher iron content than other emeralds, resulting in a more robust structure, often measuring higher on the Mohs hardness scale with a 7.5-8. As such, they are ideal for more intricate cuts. Heart-shaped emeralds are one the rarest cuts for the verdant stone, here bezel-set in necklace and earrings in striking 18K yellow gold surrounds. In the necklace, the hearts are centered on 11 platinum oval-shaped shields, each further accented by six radiating bands of baguette diamonds custom-cut to fit tightly against one another in channel settings. The style of the baguettes is reminiscent of calibré-cut gemstones, popular during the Art Deco period, that were worked into unique shapes to fit into a specific area to create a more industrial feel and a strong impact. The term calibré comes from the word calibration, which means to divide or mark with gradations.

The 11 escutcheon-like shields flow around the neck, connected by 11 yellow gold rings—10 set with calibré-cut emeralds and one at the clasp set with round diamonds. The interplay of the two metals, the two gemstones, and the shimmer created by so many ribbons of diamonds and emeralds are rhythmic and meticulously planned. On the reverse, there is a magnificent surprise—the piece is reversible, portraying 11 motifs in 18K yellow gold that feature radiating lines of round diamonds. The connecting rings are also reversed, with ten sets with round diamonds and one at the clasp set with calibré-cut emeralds.

The clip-back earrings, completed with hinged omega backs, can certainly be worn with either side of the collar necklace but are made to match the platinum side to perfection. The earrings are likewise crafted in platinum and centered with emerald hearts in yellow gold bezels. The oval-shaped earrings are oriented vertically and further adorned with five radiating lines of baguettes.
